Ruthven Park

About

Welcome to Ruthven Park National Historic Site, a magnificent haven that masterfully combines the grace of history with the tranquility of nature. This historic monument, which is spread across 1,500 acres in Ontario, Canada, offers a comprehensive look into the fascinating past of the nation.

Our Background

The Thompson family’s former estate, now known as Ruthven Park National Historic Site, had a crucial impact on the formation of early Canada. The magnificent Thompson Mansion, a striking example of Greek Revival architecture that evokes the 19th century, sits at the center of the park. The 1845-built mansion is now a museum and is filled with fascinating artifacts, photographs, and other mementos that provide fascinating insights into the lives and eras of its former occupants.

Conservation of Nature

We care about the environment just as much as we care about preserving the past. The Carolinian forest, where Ruthven Park is located, is home to a wide variety of animals and plants. Our park serves as a vital refuge for both migratory and local birds, and our on-site bird banding station actively contributes to global avian study and conservation. Those looking to get close to nature will find a peaceful getaway in the park’s marshes, woodlands, and meadows.

Events and Community Engagement

At Ruthven Park, we think it’s important to educate the public about our illustrious past and breathtaking surroundings. We present a dynamic assortment of educational activities, historical reenactments, nature seminars, and cultural festivals throughout the year. These activities not only give people a place to learn and participate, but they also build our ties to the neighborhood.
