Did you know that Ruthven Park National Historic Site has picnic tables designated for public use?
Individuals and groups are more than welcome to visit the site’s picturesque landscape and to bring a picnic with them to enjoy. Our grounds are free and open to the public on a daily basis this summer from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
There are 6 picnic tables total throughout the site that offer different views and both sunny and shady areas to choose from.
Staff would like to ask all guests to please clear away all garbage at the end of their visit. There are receptacles throughout the site and recycling bins at the restroom building beside the parking lots. We appreciate the help in keeping the site clean and safe for humans, wildlife, and plant life alike.
Dear members and friends,
The warmest and busiest season of all has arrived at Ruthven Park! Our grounds are greener than ever with the intermittent rain and the mansion continues to be a draw for visitors from far and wide.
We hope you enjoy reading the End of June 2017 Newsletter, which can be downloaded by clicking the link in this post below.
We would like to wish you all a very Happy Canada 150! Please note the notice on the final page of the newsletter regarding our Canada Day weekend hours (hint: we’re open all three days).

Did you know Ruthven Park National Historic Site has a new temporary exhibit on display?
Here is a sneak peek of what you will see when you enter the back room of the Thompson Mansion, the first stop on the guided tour that takes place in the building:
We are pleased to introduce the Curiosity Room Collection Exhibit. It was originally kept on the third floor of the mansion. Our Young Canada Works Building Careers in Heritage Intern Kelly Dixon worked hard to care for, rehouse, and display the collection to make it accessible to visitors through this special exhibit.
What else was found on the third floor of the mansion? Why did Col. Andrew Thompson and his brother Walter Wilson collect these materials? Where did everything come from? To learn the answers to these questions and more, pay us a visit and get up and personal with this intriguing part of the Thompson family collection!
From Victoria Day to Labour Day 2017, mansion tours take place 7 days a week every hour on the hour starting at 10:00 am; the last tour of the day leaves at 4:00 pm.
The Welcome Centre and Grounds: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm – By change Saturday and Sunday (Oct 14 – Nov 3)
The Mansion: Tours by appointment only, groups of 15 people or more. Call for more information 905-772-0560
Christmas Tours: Public tours begin December 4 – 20th, Wednesday – Friday only; guided tours at 12:30 pm, 2 pm and 3:30 pm.
